Description:
“He is not fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”
Jim Elliot wrote these words during his years at Wheaton College, a time when he prayed for God’s direction for his future as a missionary.
Where would God lead this unusually dedicated and versatile man? Born into a godly family in Portland, Oregon, Jim was a dynamic speaker who had memorized literally hundreds of hymns, a Greek scholar, and a college wrestling champion. Again writing in his college journal, Jim welcomes the greatest sacrifice to serve his Lord: “Father, if Thou wilt let me go to South America to labor with thee and to die… let me go soon.”
Years later that request would be fulfilled, on a beach of the Curaray River- deep in the Auca Indian territory- in eastern Ecuador. But God’s plan for Jim Elliot’s extraordinary witness would not end there. The seeds of a heretofore impossible ministry had been planted.
